    • Residents of Belleville, Sumpter, and Van Buren can apply in person at the Main Library or Sumpter Media Center, or apply online here. Online cards are temporary and must be finalized in person with proof of residency (e.g., Driver’s License, utility bill, or lease).
  • What is my default PIN?
    • The default PIN is typically the last 4 digits of the phone number on your library account. If this does not work, please contact library staff at (734) 699-3291 for a reset.
  • Can children get library cards?
    • Yes. Patrons under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present to sign the application and provide proof of residency.
  • How do I manage my account online?
    • You can log in to the Online Catalog to view checkouts, manage holds, and update settings.
  • How long can I keep items?
    • Generally, books and audio materials are loaned for 3 weeks, while new books, magazines, and DVDs are loaned for 1 week. (Specific loan periods for specialty items like hotspots may vary).
  • How do I renew my items?
    • You can renew items through the online catalog, by calling us at 734-699-3291, or in person.
  • Where can I return my items?
    • Return bins are available at the Main Library and at the Sumpter Media Center.
  • Does the library charge late fees?
    • The library is largely “fine-free” for most materials to ensure equitable access. However, specialty items like Mobile Hotspots and certain kits still carry late fees ($5.00/day for hotspots). Replacement costs apply for lost or damaged items.
  • How does Curbside Pickup work?
    1. Place a hold via the online catalog or by phone.
    2. Wait for a notification that your item is ready.
    3. Once you arrive at the library, call us at 734-699-3291, and we will arrange your pickup.
  • What if I lose or damage an item?
    • We ask that you return “Lost” items as soon as possible. If an item is damaged or cannot be found, please call us to discuss the situation and any applicable replacement fees.
  • How do I get a library card?
    • Anyone who lives, works, owns property, or attends school within the City of Belleville, Sumpter Township, or Van Buren Township is eligible for a free library card. You can apply in person at the main library or Sumpter Branch, or apply online here.
  • What documentation do I need to bring?
    • We accept a driver’s license or state ID with your current address. If your ID is not up to date, please bring a utility bill, lease agreement, mortgage, or tax bill as proof of residency.

    • Yes! Use our Mobile Printing App to send jobs from your own device or home computer and pick them up at the library.
